Have you ever felt like you could be doing more?

I did.

Earlier in 2017, I quit my job and booked a one-way flight to Ecuador in South America.

I had a dream of what a perfect life would look like, then I made it happen.

Living my dreams in the 2017 South American Adventure

One night in Medellin, Colombia, I wandered upon a fellow traveler. I noticed he was not his chipper self. I bought him a beer and we got to talking.

He was overwhelmed by his own thoughts, filled with doubt and anxiety about returning home. He was dissatisfied with where he was in his career and did not feel like he had the skills to earn enough money to live a comfortable lifestyle.

I probed, I prodded, I slapped his back and smiled. I offered words of encouragement and shared relatable experiences. I told him he wasn’t alone. By the end of it all, he said, “I feel much better”.

I learned in 9th grade chemistry, atoms are stronger when they bond.

I learned in life that so are people.

Fear, anxiety, doubt, insecurity, even success, dreams, and purpose are not topics often talked about at the dinner table, but these are the shared human experiences that make us who we are.

So if we never have a chance to share them or hear about them, how can we ever truly connect with one another?

Wine and sunsets make bonding much easier

As a recruiter, I’ve had daily conversations with job-seekers and CEO’s about purpose and growth.

As an avid reader, I’ve devoured over 20 books a year on psychology, religion, and biographies of successful people.

As a socially awkward teenager who was selectively mute, I devoted myself to self-improvement to overcome numerous obstacles.

As a human being born with a fear of heights, I’ve jumped out of a plane to conquer fear.

As a traveler, I’ve met people from countries all over the world with ranging beliefs and perspectives.

As a volunteer, I’ve served victims who have had their families murdered by Colombian drug cartels.

I have a few stories I want to share. I’m sure you do to.

Proof of me conquering my fear of heights. Sort-of.

We are all on a growth journey to lead purposeful lives. It’s much more exciting when we meet likeminded people along the way.
